SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State (4-13, 0-7 Sun Belt) ended their three-match homestand with a 5-2 loss to App State (8-6, 5-2 Sun Belt) on Sunday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
Sofia Fortuno and
Emily Niers were the only Bobcats to have wins in singles.
Doubles
The Bobcats were unable to capture the doubles point, starting with a 6-2 loss on the top court form
Kate Malazonia and
Sofia Fortuno. App State clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over
Jadeh Chan and
Emily Niers.
Mae McCutcheon and
Andrea Pineda were down 3-4 when App State clinched the point.
Singles
Sofia Fortuno and
Emily Niers were responsible for the two points the Bobcats had today. Fortuno put the Bobcats on the board with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win, with a comeback in the final tie-break set. Fortuno snapped her three-match losing streak with the win on court six.
Emily Niers defeated Savannah Dada-Mascoll, the Sun Belt Player of the Week, 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-1 on line two for the last match of the day.
App State clinched the match when Maggie Pate defeated
Kate Malazonia 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 on court three.
Andrea Pineda saw her second three set match of the weekend with a 2-6, 6-2, 1-6 loss to Erika Dodridge on court four.
Kiana Graham saw her only loss of the weekend against Helena Jansen 6-4, 6-1 on the top court.
