COLLEGE STATION, TX – Texas State softball suffered a 8-0 loss in six innings to Texas A&M on Wednesday night.
Â
After a scoreless first inning, Texas A&M was able to get itself on the board in the second. After a single to shortstop, Morgan Smith was able to score.Â
Â
The Bobcats nearly had an answer in the third when
Claire Ginder reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and advanced to second. She would get to third on a
Megan Kelnar sacrifice bunt, but when
Hannah Earls was up to bat, she would ground out to end the inning.Â
Â
Sara Vanderford doubled to left field in the fourth to get on base, but after the next three batters' ground or struck out, she'd get left on base.
Â
After a single and a walk in the fourth, head coach
Ricci Woodard opted for a pitching change from
Tori McCann to
Karsen Pierce.
Â
Pierce would strike out the first batter she faced. From there, she gave up a single to load the bases. The Aggies would nearly score but Earls' awareness helped her to make the throw home in time to get the runner out.
Â
The Aggies next batter up would walk, though, to make it 2-0 with the bases loaded. To follow up the walk, the Aggies would hit a grand slam to make it a 6-0 ball game.
Â
The Bobcats were able to get two hits in the 5
th and 6
th innings but were unable to put any runs on the board.
Â
Texas A&M tacked on its final two runs to runs in the 6
th inning. The first came off a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0 then the Aggies would walk off the run-rule win off a single to left center.
Â
Following this game, the Bobcats sit with a 26-19-1 record.
Â
Up next Texas State will return home for a weekend series with ULM beginning April 21 at 6 p.m. inside Bobcat Softball Stadium. All three games of the series will be broadcast on ESPN+.
