LAFAYETTE, Louisiana – Texas State fell 4-2 in game two of its series with Louisiana after a late-inning resurgence and two home runs from the Ragin' Cajuns. Despite leading headed to the fifth inning, the Bobcats fell on the day.
Texas State came out hot in the first inning. When
Ciara Trahan reached on a throwing error as the first batter up,
Hannah Earls would follow that up with a single. Trahan scored to give the Bobcats a lead with no outs.
Anna Jones would double to left center and Earls would score before the end of the top of the 1
st.
Tori McCann started in the circle for the Bobcats, her 12
th start of the season. She allowed just one hit in the opening two innings with one walk.
The Bobcats got no hits off in the top of the third and but was a center-field masterclass from
Piper Randolph in the bottom to keep the Cajuns off the board. Randolph covered ground on two fly outs to make two key catches that would end the inning with no one getting past second base.
After the Bobcats failed to find another run in the fourth, the Cajuns answered with a home run. Midway through the game the Bobcats were able to hold the 2-1 lead, despite the fourth inning homer.
Analisa Soliz came into pitch in the middle of the fifth inning but faced just two batters before McCann reentered the game and closed it out, preserving the 2-1 lead headed to the final two innings.
The Ragin' Cajuns made a pitching change after walking Vanderford and Jones.
Katarina Zarate nearly had an answering home run, but it was just outside the left side foul pole and called foul. Zarate and
JJ Smith would get out to end the inning with two left on base.
The Ragin' Cajuns would take the lead in the bottom of the 6
th off another homer, this one good for two RBI.
Presley Glende would pitch following the lead change.
The Cajuns' next at bat would add another homerun to the tally, taking a 4-2 lead into the seventh inning that the Bobcats were unable to find a way back from. The Cajuns would take the series with a 4-2 win in game two.
The Bobcats will play one more against Louisiana tomorrow at 12 p.m. inside Lamson Park. Up next, the Bobcats will head to College Station to face Texas A&M on April 19 at 6 p.m. (CT).
