Bobcats Come Up Short in 5-2 Loss to Marshall

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis (4-12, 0-6 Sun Belt) won two singles matches, but it was not enough in a 5-2 loss to Marshall (10-6, 4-2 Sun Belt) on Friday at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
Marshall took the win in the first meeting between the Herd and the Bobcats. This was the first match where Texas State picked up at least two singles wins since their matchup with No. 24 Old Dominion on March 12.
 
Doubles
Texas State was unable to get the doubles point for the fourth time in a row and left the third match unfinished. Jadeh Chan and Maria Lora lost the first match of the day 6-1 to Gabrielle Clairotte and Rieke Gillar on line three.
 
Marshall clinched the doubles point when Aisling McGrane and Sophia Hurrion defeated Mae McCutcheon and Andrea Pineda 6-3 on court two.
 
Kate Malazonia and Sofia Fortuno were down 5-4 when play was stopped.
 
Singles
Marshall extended their lead to 3-0 following Emily Niers dropping her match 6-2, 6-2 on court two and Sofia Fortuno losing 6-4, 6-3 on court six.
 
Kiana Graham won the first match of the day for the Bobcats when she defeated Emma Vanderheyden 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 on the top court.
 
Marshall clinched the match when Doroteja Joksovic defeated Kate Malazonia 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 on court three. Andrea Pineda was the third Bobcat to see a successful tie-break set, but couldn't find a win. Pineda lost 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-5 to Aisling McGrane on line four.
 
Mae McCutcheon closed out the match against Marshall with an extensive 7-6, (13-11), 6-2 win over Andjela Lopicic on court five. The win ended McCutcheon's eight-match losing streak.
