Bobcats Fall 6-1 to Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – Texas State tennis (4-10, 0-5 Sun Belt) lost their second road match of the weekend 6-1 to Coastal Carolina (12-4, 4-0 Sun Belt) at the Stevens Tennis Complex on Sunday. Emily Niers secured the only point of the match for the Bobcats with her singles win. 
 
Singles
Starting the day with singles, Coastal Carolina went on a 5-0 singles run before Emily Niers captured the lone Texas State singles win. Niers closed out singles play with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win on court three over Megan Hopton, this was her second set of the weekend to go to a tiebreaker. 
 
The Chanticleers got to an early 3-0 start with Bobcat losses starting with Sofia Fortuno's 6-1, 6-0 loss to Lillie Steryous on court six. Mae McCutcheon saw her fifth loss on line five after falling 6-2, 6-1 to Jesse Hollins. On line two Coastal Carolina's Anna Babayan defeated Kate Malazonia 6-2, 6-1 in her second outing on that court. 
 
Despite a hard-fought effort in both sets, Andrea Pineda dropped her match on line four 7-5, 6-3 to Tatum Burger, clinching the match for Coastal Carolina. On the top court Kiana Graham lost 6-2, 6-1 to Victoire De Samucewicz.
 
Doubles
The Chanticleer's carried its momentum into doubles starting with a 6-3 win over Malazonia and McCutcheon on the top court. In their second appearance on court three, Jadeh Chan and Niers lost 6-2 to give Coastal Carolina the doubles point. 
 
Sofia Fortuno and Maria Lora were down 5-4 when play ended.

The Bobcats return home for a three-match homestand, starting with their final non-conference match against Brown on Wednesday March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
