Softball Ties in Series Finale with Troy

TROY, AL – The Bobcats series finale against the Troy Trojans would end in a 2-2 draw after seven innings due to Texas State's travel conditionings prohibiting the team from continuing play into extra innings.

The Bobcats started off strong with Ciara Trahan getting walked on her first at bat. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and stole second on Sara Vanderford's at bat. Vanderford would single up the middle to allow Trahan to go home and get on the scoresheet.

Momentum began to swing the way of the Trojans in the fourth inning. Despite the Bobcats getting three hits in the two innings, the Trojans took the lead in the fourth. It was a two-run home run in Kennedi Gaton that gave the Trojans a 2-1 lead.

Tori McCann would come in to pitch in the bottom of the fourth with two outs.

Karmyn Bass stepped up to bat in the fifth inning with Vanderford on base and hit a double to right field allowing Vanderford to score and equalize the game.

In the top of the sixth inning back-to-back bunts from Trahan and Earls would load the bases for the Bobcats but the Trojans defense got the two outs with the bases loaded to shut down the Bobcats attempt at taking the lead.

Headed into the bottom of the 6th the Bobcats and the Trojans were all level. Both Texas State and Troy were able to get two hits in the 6th inning but neither side put a run on the board. More of the same continued in the seventh inning with a defensive showcase prohibiting either side from getting a hit in what would be the final inning of the game.

After seven innings the game would end in a tie. Due to the travel conditions Texas State was facing, the coaches agreed prior to the game to not start another inning after 2:15 (CT). This call made the seventh inning the final inning able to be played in the allotted time and the Bobcats will return to San Marcos with its first tie since 2003.

UP NEXT: The Bobcats will face in-state foe UTSA on Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. in San Antonio. Texas State will return home on March 24 for the start of a three-game series with South Alabama. The opening game of the series will begin at 6 p.m. (CT).
