Softball Run Rules UTSA 15-0 in Midweek Meeting

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Texas State softball run-ruled the UTSA Roadrunners in a midweek game on Wednesday evening. After scoring nine runs in the second inning alone, the Bobcats would shutout the Roadrunners in a 15-0 win.

The Bobcats started out hot after Hannah Earls, who lead off for the Bobcats for the first time this season, was walked. Ciara Trahan reached on a fielder's choice as the next batter up. Sara Vanderford would be the third to bat for the Bobcats and she'd send out a bomb to left field for her fourth home run of the season, good for two RBI.

Next up, Anna Jones singled to left center and was followed up by Karmyn Bass who hit another two-run homer to give the Bobcats a comfortable 4-0 lead after the first inning.

The second inning was a run-fest for the Bobcats. Starting things off was JJ Smith's single that Anna Jones and Vanderford scored on. Then, Bass scored when UTSA's pitcher walked Emilee Baker. Smith scored when Earls walked as well. Trahan was up to bat next when she hit a double, giving the Bobcats two runs from Baker and Zarate. To cap off the inning, Vanderford hit another home run which was good for three RBI. After just two innings the Bobcats held a 13-0 lead.

Jessica Mullins was on the mound to start the game for the Bobcats and had three strikeouts through the opening three innings of play to keep the Roadrunners off the board. She allowed just one hit in her three innings.

In the fourth inning, Vanderford singled up the middle for Earls to score the Bobcats 14th run on just nine hits. Smith tacked on another in the fifth inning to close out the 15-0 win for the Bobcats.

Additionally, freshman pitcher Analisa Soliz came in to pitch the closing two innings of the game and had two strikeouts to preserve the shutout.

Vanderford ended the night leading the team in runs with three runs on three at bats and six RBI.

This win is the largest margin of victory the Bobcats have had since a 16-0 win against Georgia State on March 6, 2020.
