SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the conclusion of their seven-match homestand, Texas State (4-8, 0-3 Sun Belt) suffered their third straight loss when they fell 5-2 to Southern Miss (6-4, 1-2 Sun Belt) at the Bobcat Tennis Complex Friday, March 17.
Doubles
Texas State secured an early advantage over Southern Miss when
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora clinched the point on line three 6-4 over Zenn Lim and Maddison Ricardo. This is the duo's third straight doubles win.
Jadeh Chan and
Andrea Pineda were the second pair of Bobcats to pick up a doubles win, defeating Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel 6-2 on line two.
On line one
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon dropped their match 6-3 to Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter.
Singles
Kiana Graham won by retirement and was up 6-3, 2-1 against Ebru Zeynep Yazgan on the top court when play ended.
Southern Miss clinched the match when Zenn Lim won 7-6 (10-8), 6-1 over
Mae McCutcheon on court four.
Maria Lora also saw a tiebreak set in a comeback battle that was unsuccessful when Hannah Chambers won 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2 on court six.
Sofia Fortuno's six-match win streak ended in a 7-5, 6-1 loss to Maddison Ricardo on court five.
Kate Malazonia's match on court three was her fifth of the season to last three sets and third straight. Malazonia lost 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Clara Tardivel
