SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a back-and-forth match Texas State (4-7, 0-2 Sun Belt) had a close 4-3 loss to No. 24 Old Dominion (7-4, 2-0 Sun Belt) at the Bobcat Tennis Complex Sunday, March 12.
Doubles
Texas State dropped the doubles point for the second consecutive time and ninth time this season.
Jadeh Chan and
Emma Carr lost their match on court three 6-3 in their first doubles outing of the season.
Old Dominion's Allison Isaacs and Alexandra Viktorovich clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court one over
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon.
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora were down 3-4 when play was stopped.
Singles
To even things up
Maria Lora won the first singles match of the day on court six 6-2, 6-2 against Mya Byrd. From there
Kiana Graham put the Bobcats ahead after a quick 6-1, 6-1 win over Sofia Johnson on the top court to put her back in the win column.
Biran Shahar evened the match 2-2 after defeating
Emily Niers 6-2, 6-4 on court two.
Mae McCutcheon's 6-3, 6-3 loss to Alexandra Viktorovich on line four put the Monarchs ahead 3-2.
Old Dominion earned their fourth point to clinch the match over Texas State when
Kate Malazonia lost in three sets to Alesya Yakubovich 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Sofia Fortuno closed out the match with a comeback 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win for the Bobcats on line five. This is Fortuno's first win on line five after being moved up the lineup and is on a six-match win streak overall.
