SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State tennis (4-6, 0-1 Sun Belt) ended their three-match win streak when they dropped their home opener 5-2 to James Madison (5-4, 1-0 Sun Belt) at the Bobcat Tennis Complex Friday, March 10.
Sofia Fortuno and
Kate Malazonia were the only Bobcats to pick up wins in singles.
Doubles
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon lost the first doubles match of the day 6-2 to Kylie Moulin and Ines Oliveira on the top court.
Line three duo
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora won their second straight doubles match and tied things up with a 6-4 win over Daria Afanasyeva and Reka Matko.
The Dukes clinched the doubles point despite a comeback effort from
Jadeh Chan and
Andrea Pineda in their 6-4 loss to James Madison's Daria Munteanu and Daniela Voloh.
Singles
Sofia Fortuno and
Kate Malazonia were the only Bobcats to win their singles matches and give Texas State their two points of the match. Fortuno improved to 6-1 on court six and is on a five-match win streak after defeating Hope Moulin in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
Court three was the final match of the day where
Kate Malazonia had a back-and-forth 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win against Ines Oliveria.
James Madison clinched the match after
Emily Niers battled through a first set that went into a tiebreaker but fell short in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 loss to Daria Afanasyeva.
Kiana Graham lost her top court match 6-3, 6-3 to Kylie Moulin to give the Dukes its fifth point.
