Errors Costly in First Loss of the Season

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Four errors were committed by the Texas State baseball team (4-1) Saturday afternoon in a 6-3 loss to Oral Roberts (5-2) at Bobcat Ballpark.

"I thought they won every facet of the game. They pitched it better, played better defense and swung it better. Any time you lose two of them, it is hard to win but when you loss all three it's nearly impossible to win," said head coach Steven Trout. "As I told the team, you have to get used to winning and find ways to get over losses. There are a lot of teachable moments to get better for tomorrow."

Suffering the loss on the mound was Zeke Wood (1-1) after surrendering four runs, two of them earned in 3.2 innings while striking out six. Tony Robie thew 2.1 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts and Jack Stroud recorded three strikeouts in 2.2 innings and allowed an unearned run.

The Bobcats' offense struggled for the second game in a row with only two hits. Both were home runs with the first coming off the bat of Jose Gonzalez and the second being from Ryder Hernandez.

Gonzalez put TXST ahead in the bottom of the first with a solo shot off the batter's eye on the first pitch he saw.

The lead was short lived as the Golden Eagles knotted the score in the next half inning on a Blaze Brothers solo homer. Three more runs were added by the visitors in the fourth with two being the direct result of two errors.

In the bottom of the fifth, Peyton Lewis drew his second walk of the game to start the frame. Hernandez followed by blasting a 1-2 offering to left field for his second round tripper of the season and cutting the deficit to 4-3.

ORU finished off the scoring with a run apiece in the seventh and ninth innings, both of which were unearned due to errors.

The series finale is scheduled for first pitch at 1 p.m. from Bobcat Ballpark.
