SAN MARCOS, Texas – Despite losing the doubles point early in the match, Texas State (2-5) came back to defeat Stephen F. Austin (2-4) 6-1 and swept all six singles matches on Sunday, Feb. 19 at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
"I think myself, and the whole team can breathe a collective sigh of relief," said tennis head coach
Kendall Brooks. "We have been waiting to put together a day like today this whole season so far. I am so proud of them for sticking with it and coming out today after losing the doubles point again and just not being denied. It was a total team effort, and I am excited to be back in the win column."
Doubles
Kate Malazonia and
Mae McCutcheon lost the first doubles match of the day 6-3 to SFA's Alkmini Giannakogiorgou and Jemma Cave on line one.
Jadeh Chan and
Sofia Fortuno were the only duo to get a win in doubles and saw their first victory on line three, topping Ksenia Mamontova and Elena Bleicher 6-4.
SFA clinched the doubles point on court two when Zala Ule and Felicia Back defeated
Andrea Pineda and
Emma Carr 7-5.
Singles
All six Bobcats won their singles matches, four of them winning in straight sets.
Kiana Graham got the first singles win of the day and put the first point on the board for Texas State after defeating Ksenia Mamontova in a quick 6-0, 6-0 on the top court.
Sofia Fortuno won 6-0, 6-1 on line six over Elena Bleicher.
Andrea Pineda got her second singles win on line four with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Felicia Back.
Emily Niers clinched the match for the Bobcats to get its second win of the season on line two 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Mae McCutcheon came from behind after losing the first set but came out on top when she defeated Carolina Chiatti 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Kate Malazonia also closed things out with a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 comeback win on line three.
