Home events highlight this week in Texas State athletics with baseball opening their season at Bobcat Ballpark with a three-game series against Northwestern, women's basketball returning to San Marcos for senior day on Saturday, and women's tennis will be hosting a pair of weekend matches. Softball will be hosting the I-35 Tourney for a weekend of five games. Men's basketball will be on the road for their final two road games of the season. Men's golf opens their season on the road and women's golf will be competing in Las Vegas. Soccer begins their spring schedule at Houston Christian.

Texas State baseball will begin their season at home this week with a three-game series against Northwestern. Texas State was picked to finish tied for second in the coaches' poll alongside Georgia Southern. Of the four spots on the squad for pitchers, a Bobcat was chosen for three of them in Triston Dixon, Levi Wells, and Zeke Wood. Outfielder Jose Gonzalez was the lone Texas State fielder honored. The four preseason selections are the most in program history since joining the conference.

This week men's basketball (12-15, 5-9 Sun Belt) will have their final two road games of the regular season at App State (14-13, 7-7 Sun Belt) and Coastal Carolina (10-16, 4-10 Sun Belt). The Bobcats split its pair home games last week and snapped its three-game losing streak with a 66-62 win against Arkansas State where five players finished in double figures.

Texas State men's golf will open their spring season at the Hal Williams Collegiate, hosted by South Alabama, at the Magnolia Grove Crossings golf course. In its fall schedule, the Bobcats were team champions at the Tempest Collegiate and Tom Karlsen earned the individual championship shooting five-under while Terrin Anderson finished second.
 
Soccer
Friday, February 17—at Houston Christian

Soccer begins its spring schedule with a trip to Houston Christian on Friday. The Bobcats will play a total of seven opponents in preparation for the 2023 season. Two matches will take place at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Texas State Softball (3-2) will be hosting their second of three back-to-back tournaments, in the 2023 I-35 Tourney they will be playing Lamar, South Dakota State and New Mexico State. The Bobcats picked up its first two wins of the season against Kent State and avenged an early loss to Wichita State on Friday with a 7-4 victory Sunday at the Texas State Invitational.

Women's basketball (18-7, 10-4 Sun Belt) is on a three-game winning streak and will have their final two games inside Strahan Arena of the season this week. Texas State is 6-4 on the road after winning their two road games last week. Thursday's matchup with James Madison (20-6, 10-4 Sun Belt) will be an equity and inclusion awareness game and senior day will be on Saturday against South Alabama (6-19, 2-12 Sun Belt). Texas State and James Madison are in a three-way tie for second in the Sun Belt Conference Standings.

Women's golf opened the spring portion of their 2023 season with a team and individual championship at the Texas State invitational. This was the first team championship for the Bobcats since 2019 and the first in the collegiate career for Mattingly Palmer. Texas State finished the tournament with a 34-stroke lead and held the top spot throughout the tournament. Palmer found the top of the leaderboard in the final day and shot a new 54-hole total and a new lowest single round.

Tennis (1-4) dropped their home opener 4-1 to Tarleton State at the Bobcat Tennis Complex and lost 4-1 on the road at UTSA. Kate Malazonia picked up two singles wins on line three over the weekend and teamed up with partner Mae McCutcheon for lone double match win over the Roadrunners on the top court. The Bobcats will begin a seven-match homestand this Saturday beginning with UTRGV.
