Men’s Hoops to Face Longhorns on Thursday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A short trip up I-35 will see Texas State (3-4) take on No. 16/18 Texas (5-1) Thursday night for the first time since 2020. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. from inside the Moody Center.
 
Fans can catch the action on the Longhorn Network and on the Varsity Sports Network with Clint Shields and Brant Freeman on the call. Live stats will also be available to follow.
 
About Texas State
Saturday saw the Bobcats defeat former conference foe UT Arlington on the road. Returning from injury and making his debut to spark the team off the bench was Jordan Mason, who scored a career-high 21 points. Kaden Gumbs also set a career best with eight assists.
 
Brandon Love enters Thursday pacing the team with 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He has also blocked a Sun Belt leading 23 shots, which also ranks second in the nation. Also with a double-digit scoring average entering the game is Gumbs at 10.7 ppg while also posting 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists per contest.
 
About Texas
The Longhorns are coming off an 86-63 victory over Wyoming on Sunday. Other wins on the year have been against Delaware State, Incarnate Word, Louisville and Rice while the lone loss was to then No. 5/4 UConn in the finals of the Saatva Empire Classic on Nov. 24.
 
Five players are putting up double-figures led by Max Abmas at 15.2 ppg behind a team leading 16 made three-pointers. Dillon Mitchell is close to averaging a double-double at 11.7 ppg and 8.5 rpg. Also with a double-digit scoring mark is Ithiel Horton (12.7), Tyrese Hunter (12.2) and Kadin Shedrick (14.8).

Texas has dominated the all-time series and holds a 43-5 advantage. The Longhorns have won the last 27 meetings with the last being a 74-53 contest on Dec. 9, 2020.
 
All-time, Texas State has won twice when facing UT in Austin. The last victory was a 33-31 contest on Dec. 7, 1937 while the first win came on Dec. 13, 1935 by a score of 35-33.
