Men’s Hoops Drops Contest to Cowboys

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech MTE opened with a 59-48 loss for Texas State (2-3) on Tuesday to McNeese (5-1) from inside the Thomas Assembly Center.

Kaden Gumbs led the way for the Bobcats with 13 points while dishing out three assists. Coming just shy of a double-double was Johsua O'Garro with nine points and nine rebounds. Down low, Chris Nix had a season-high eight points off the bench while grabbing six rebounds.

Brandon Love recorded his sixth straight game, dating back to last season, with multiple blocks with three on the afternoon.

A layup from Nix extended the Bobcats advantage to 7-4 with 14:14 left in the opening half. Afterwards, the Cowboys responded with an 11-0 run that spanned 6:10 to go up by eight. Christian Turner ended the run with a trey to cut the deficit to 15-10.

McNeese would take their largest lead of the half at 23-14. TXST would limit the Cowboys to just three points over the final two minutes while scoring six to head into the halftime down six.

Trailing by 10, the Bobcats went on a 7-2 run with the last five points being scored by Dontae Horne to close the deficit to 46-41 with 6:19 left on the clock. That would be as close as they would get as the Cowboys scored 11 of the final 16 points of the contest.

Next for TXST is a matchup with Southern Utah on Wednesday at 12 p.m. to conclude each team's time in the Pelican State.
