SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State women's basketball improved to 3-0 on the season after battling through a close game with the UTRGV Vaqueros and getting a 66-63 win inside Strahan Arena. Led by
Ja'Niah Henson's new Texas State career-high 19 points, the Bobcats continue their home stand undefeated.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bobcats started the same five players for the third consecutive game to open the night against in-state WAC opponent UTRGV. Off the bat,
Tiffany Tullis got things started for the 'Cats. Getting the first bucket of the night she would get four points and five rebounds in the first quarter. She led the team in scoring as a late-quarter scoring run helped the Bobcats hold an 18-14 lead through the opening quarter.
Through the second quarter the Bobcats had to battle to go into the halftime break with the lead.
Ja'Niah Henson shot 3-4 including 2-2 from three to have eight points in the third quarter. That and another four rebounds from Tullis helped the Bobcats stay ahead after their hot start in the second quarter. At the break the 'Cats lead 35-33.
The third quarter became scoring by committee as the Bobcats 17 points came from seven different team members.
Jaylin Foster lead with five of her own with two steals in seven minutes of action. The Bobcats were able to hold the lead through three quarters and headed to the 4
th winning 52-47.
In the final 10 minutes of the game, it became a back-and-forth battle between the two sides.
Timia Jefferson led the team with nine points in the fourth quarter, paired with four rebounds to help the Bobcats preserve the lead and get the win. Despite being outscored in the 4
th quarter, the Bobcats were able to get the 66-63 win on the night and remain undefeated so far this season.Â

- The Bobcats have improved to 3-0 on the season. The 'Cats last started the year 3-0 in the 2022-23 season as well.Â
- Ja'Niah Henson set a new season-high for herself on points with 19 tonight. The transfer from Morgan State has increased her scoring each game played for the Bobcats. She sits at 977 career points three games into her fifth year.
- Timia Jefferson has back-to-back double-digit scoring night in her first season of play as a Bobcat. She now sits at 936 career points after her first three seasons at Houston Christian.
