Volleyball Earns Road Win versus Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Arkansas — Texas State volleyball improves to 8-3 in conference play this season after a 3-1 win against Arkansas State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After Arkansas State got out to a quick start, the Bobcats battled back to keep things close and get out to a lead at the midway point of the set. At the media timeout the Bobcats held a 15-10 lead which was enough to help them to a 25-18 win in the set. Highlighted by five team blocks in the opening set, it was a defensive showing from the Bobcats to grit out the win in the opening set.

Set two was a back and forth battle all the way through to the end. With nine tied scores and four lead changes, both teams battled to find the set win. This was the only set of the night that the home side hit above .200, the Bobcats held them below it the rest of the night. Despite its best fight and forcing an extra point to be played at the end of the set, Arkansas State was able to take their lone set of the night in set two.

The Bobcats saw the set two loss and refused to let that happen again. Texas State took the first point of the set and didn't allow the Redwolves to have the lead for the duration of the set. Holding Arkansas State to just 13 points, the Bobcats dominated through the set for the 25-13 win. Highlighted by a team .333 hitting percentage, it was all Bobcats. Maggie Walsh lead the team in set three with four kills on five attempts for a .800 hitting percentage. That and forcing 10 attack errors from Arkansas State helped the Bobcats get the statement set win.

Set four saw more of the same from set three.  After Arkansas State took the opening three points, the Bobcats staged a comeback they did not relent. With things tied 6-6, the Bobcats found its first lead of the set and very let up. The Bobcats defense again showed out with 19 digs and four team blocks to help get the 25-16 win in set three.
