Â
Do you feel like you finally got the amount of carries that you've always wanted in a game?
Â
Before I answer any questions, man, I just want to give a shoutout to my o-line. None of this could've been possible without them. Like they opened the holes and led the way for me, and none of this could've been possible without them. I just want to give a big shoutout to them. Yes, it's good to get carries, but I feel like me, I'm the type of back that I just want to make something happen with the carries that I get. So, I wouldn't say yeah, I needed the carries or whatever
. So, I feel like just doing the best with the opportunities I get with the carries I get.
Â
Did you expect to run this much or were you playing by what the defense was giving you?
Â
Going into the game, (head coach
Jake Spavital) said he wanted to establish the line of scrimmage. He said he wanted to run the ball. He said every play we were going to call a non-play and then when it was a good look it was my checkout. So, he said he wanted to run the ball and establish the line. So, I mean coming into the game, I had my mind set on going out there and having a good game or whatever, but I didn't know I was going do that.
Â
Coach said you gave the game ball back, you didn't want it and wanted to take it a team thing. What went into that?
Â
Like I said that even the o-line, none of this would've been possible without them or the team… This is about the team, that's all I'm going to say. None of this would've been possible without the WHOLE entire team.
Â
How important was it for you guys to come out and win the physical battle moving forward in the season?
Â
It's
very important. You know you see this game; we ran the ball and we won. So, I feel like once you establish the line of scrimmage and you can run the ball, it just opens everything up and makes everything that much better. So, I feel like if we can establish the line of scrimmage each game, I feel like we will be perfectly fine going onto the rest of the season.
Â
What is your mentality whenever you're out there running the ball?
Â
My mindset is to take every carry like it's going to be my
last because you never know when it can be your last carry. Like I told coach Spav, there were some runs out there where I'm tired or whatever it was, I got to clean that up.
For the most part, I just take every carry like it's going to be my last carry. You never know when your last carry is going to be.
Â
Not to move to a sour note, but with Chris's injury, what did it mean to you as a player to have both teams come together in that moment?
Â
It meant a lot you know, because seeing him go down like that, it was scary. I was on the sidelines praying that he is okay, and I just wanted to make sure he was okay you know. Seeing him go down like that was pretty scary, but I just pray that he is alright.
Â
Â
How important is it to get that first home win in the season. It's been a while since y'all have been able to do it. How important is that for not only the team, but the fans and keeping the momentum in the rest of the season?
Â
I feel like that's really huge. Because like you know, after last week, people were kind of doubting us, you know. You see the tweets, you see everything. I feel like everybody was doubting us. I feel like now with the home win now we just getting that confidence and that swagger back that we need to go on to next week's game. So I feel like it just gave us that confidence.
Â
You know eighteen thousand and some change were in attendance tonight. How does that feel to see a stadium that isn't empty?
Â
Coming out of the tunnel, seeing the smoke, seeing the highlight video and seeing all the fans in the stadium. Man, that just made me want to do more right there, just seeing all the fans that came to the game and came to support us. So you know from going here on out, they set the standard with everybody being here so they got to keep coming man, you know, we going to keep winning and they got to keep coming.
Â
What did you think of the school president riding in on the motorcycle?
Â
Yea, I liked that, that was live. That set the standard right there.
