SAN MARCOS, TX — Texas State's volleyball program and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) have become quite familiar with each other under third-year head coach Sean Huiet as the Bobcats were among the teams "receiving votes" in Monday's AVCA Division I Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The recognition marks the third consecutive season the Texas State volleyball program has either been ranked in the top 25 or among the "receiving votes" section. Prior to Monday's inclusion, the Bobcats concluded their fall 2020 scheduled ranked No. 11, and then received votes in the AVCA preseason poll in 2021.

Texas State, which received three votes in Monday's poll, is one of two Sun Belt teams included as defending conference tournament champion South Alabama picked up five votes.

The preseason poll also included 2022 Texas State opponents UCLA (#12), Hawai'I (RV) and South Alabama (RV).

Texas State, which appeared in its fifth consecutive Sun Belt Conference championship match last season, returns five of its six starters from its 2021 squad, including conference player of the year and four-time setter of the year Emily DeWalt as well as the league's offensive player of the year Janell Fitzgerald. The Bobcats will open its 2022 campaign against Houston Baptist at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 inside the McDermott Convocation Center on the campus of UIW in San Antonio.
