#13 Bobcats Sweep Panthers, Go Undefeated on the Road in Conference Play

ATLANTA – A late two-run homer off the bat of John Wuthrich was the difference as 13th-ranked Texas State (44-11, 26-4 Sun Belt) defeated Georgia State (30-26, 15-15 Sun Belt) 4-3 Saturday afternoon at the GSU Baseball Complex to complete the sweep. The Bobcats completed the regular season with a 15-0 record on the road in Sun Belt Conference games, the first team in league history to accomplish the feat.

Throwing seven-solid innings was Tony Robie (4-0) to earn the win. The right-hander struck out six in seven innings while allowing two runs, one of them earned, on seven hits. Picking up his first career save was Jonathan Martinez as he tossed the final two innings with one strikeout. Seth Clark (5-2) took the loss after giving up two runs in 1.2 innings.

At the plate, Wuthrich went 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. August Ramirez was the only other TXST player with three while plating a run. Dalton Shuffield finished the game with two stolen bases to increase his season total to 16.

The Panthers struck first their first time at the plate with an RBI single for the early advantage.

With two gone in the fourth, Wuthrich hit a shot past the third baseman. The left fielder misplayed the ball to allow the Midland, Texas native to reach second. That would prove costly as Ramirez laced a single to right to plate the tying run.

GSU went back in front 2-1 after plating a run in the fifth.

The next half inning began with back-to-back singles by Wuthrich and Ramirez, respectively. Two batters later, Isaiah Ortega-Jones doubled to left to plate the tying run.

Wesley Faison led off the seventh by drawing a walk. Facing a 2-2 count, Wuthrich blasted the ball to center for his 14th homer of the season and put the Bobcats ahead 4-2.

A solo shot to start off the eight by Max Ryerson cut the lead to a run. That would be the final run of the game for either team in the contest.

Next up for the Bobcats is the Sun Belt Tournament that will take place in Montgomery, Alabama at Riverwalk Stadium. They will face the lowest seed to advance out of the single-elimination games.
