SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the first time this season 17th-ranked Texas State (34-11, 17-4 Sun Belt) dropped a series finale with a 21-8 loss in seven innings to South Alabama (24-18, 10-11 Sun Belt) Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark.

Â
Suffering the loss was

Â
With one gone in the first, Shuffield and Gonzalez hit back-to-back singles. Both were successful on a double steal and Shuffield would come in on a wild pitch.
John Wuthrich plated the second run of the frame with a double to left center.
Â
The lead was short lived as the Jaguars scored 10 runs in the next half inning and added one more in the third.
Â
Singles from
Ben McClain and Shuffield started off the Bobcats' half of the third. The first pitch to Gonzalez was smashed down the right field line and hit off the foul pole for his sixth home run of the season. Thompson reached base and advanced to second on a throwing error. A ground-rule double off the bat of Pena plated the fourth run of the frame. The fifth and final run of the inning came when Faison hit a bloop single to right and saw the ball bounce past the outfielder to allow Pena to score and cut the deficit to 11-7.
Â
That would be as close as Texas State would get as South Alabama scored 10 straight runs over the next four innings.
Â
Faison would tally the final run of the contest with a line drive shot over the left field wall for his eighth homer of the year.
Â
