Bobcats Come Up Short on Senior Day

SAN MARCOS, Texas- In the last home match of the season, Texas State (4-14, 1-7) came up short 4-2 to Georgia Southern (10-8, 3-4) on Senior Day.

"Coach Brooks did a phenomenal job getting all the alumni here, surprised how many showed up," said head coach Tory Plunkett. "It was exciting, it was emotional and again I have to thank coach Brooks for a wonderful day. Not only was it just about me, but it was also about the seniors too and she did a phenomenal job."

Doubles
Fifth-year senior Hana Kvapilova and Kate Malazonia won the first doubles match of the day 6-1 on court one.

Jadeh Chan and Mae McCutcheon dropped their match 6-1. Sofia Fortuno and Kylee Shannon were unable to clinch the doubles point for the Bobcats, going 6-2 on court three.

Singles
Senior Renata Gonzalez ended her last home match as a Bobcat victoriously, defeating Hannah Daniel 6-2, 6-2 on court six.

"Huge win for Renata. She started off slow, we had a little bit of a talk and I said do you remember what you said, and she said yes," said Coach Plunkett.

"She went out and had the right mentality to go out and win. Playing on senior day is really emotional and you want to win so badly because you want to win your last match. And to be honest with you, that typically doesn't happen because there's so much stress and pressure, so for her to go out and do that I'm super proud of her."

Maria Lora won her No. 5 match 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) against Elizabeth Goines, picking up her second singles win of the weekend.

Hana Kvapilova's match at No. 1 went unfinished, but she was going strong with a 3-6, 6-3, 3-1 score.

Coach Plunkett on Hana's match, "I'm super proud of Hani. I think if the match continued, she would have won her match. To win two matches on senior day is huge so that was a little disappointing, but it's part of the rules I'm proud of her, proud of both of those young ladies."
