JONESBORO, Ark.- Texas State (3-6, 1-0) rallies back for 5-2 win at Arkansas State (4-6, 0-1) to claim first Sun Belt conference win of the season,
Hana Kvapilova clinched the win with her singles match.
The Bobcats had a slow start in doubles but were able to bounce back winning their next five matches.
"It was exciting to see the team come out for the conference match with a huge amount of confidence after having such a very difficult and tough preseason," said Texas State women's tennis head coach
Tory Plunkett. "The freshmen ended up stepping up big for us and it feels good to come home with a big win."
Singles
Fifth-year senior
Hana Kvapilova clinched the fourth singles point for the Bobcats victory, with her 6-4, 7-5 win on the No. 1 court. Kvapilova got the victory over previous Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, Thea Rice.
Freshmen
Sofia Fortuno and
Maria Lora claimed wins in their matches. Fortuno defeated Sofia Vdovychenko 6-4, 6-4 in flight No.4. Lora also had a 6-4, 6-4 win against Yasmine Humbert in flight No. 5.
Kate Malazonia had a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 against Nejla Zukic.
Jadeh Chan was in flight No. 6 where she won 6-4, 6-2 against Rebecca Brody.
Doubles
Kvapilova and Malazonia lost 6-2 against Rice and Zukic in the No. 1 doubles match. Fortuno and
Kylee Shannon lost the No. 3 match 6-2, to give the Red Wolves the doubles point.
