HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Texas State (20-6) rallied late but dropped its second straight midweek game with a 12-9 loss to Sam Houston (15-10) Tuesday night at Don Sanders Stadium.

Ben McClain paced the Bobcats at the plate with a 3-for-4 day and drove in two runs. Also finishing two RBI was
Isaiah Ortega-Jones, who finished with two base knocks as well.
John Wuthrich bashed his team leading seventh home run of the season and
Dalton Shuffield recorded an RBI triple.

Taking the loss was
Trevis Sundgren (2-3) after he gave up six runs on seven hits in two innings. Coltin Atkinson (3-0) earned the win working two innings with three strikeouts.

Cameron Bush matched his career-high with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. Both
Jonathan Martinez and
Peyton Zabel worked scoreless innings with two and one strikeouts, respectively.

McClain began the game with a seeing-eye single through the right side. Shuffield followed by smashing an offering off the center field wall for an RBI triple, the 10th of his career to tie for the third most in program history. He would come home on a ground out to give the Bobcats a 2-0 advantage after the first half inning.

The Bearkats answered back in the bottom of the inning with a run. They would take the lead the next inning with four runs and tack on three more in the third to go up 8-2.

Wuthrich led off the fourth by smashing the first pitch he saw over the left center field wall for his team leading seventh home run to cut the deficit to five.

The Bobcats were able to load the bases with two gone. McClain hit a ball back up the middle that saw the second baseman make a diving stop but unable to make a play at a base to plate a run.

Sam Houston answered back in the bottom half with four runs to go up 12-4.

Daylan Pena began the eighth with a single up the middle.
Peyton Lewis drew a walk and
Cameron Gibbons was plunked to load the bases. Back-to-back passed balls scored two runs. A deep fly ball to left off the bat brought home Gibbons to cut the Bearkats lead down to five.

A fielding error was followed by a Lewis single and a walk drawn by Gibbons. Ortega-Jones battled and laced a two RBI single to right field to bring the tying run to the plate with two outs. However, a strikeout ended the game and TXST's comeback attempt.

Next up for the Bobcats is a series in Boone, North Carolina against App State. The opening game is scheduled to take place on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
