AUSTIN, Texas – After coming up just short on Tuesday night at home against No. 1 Texas, 17th-ranked Texas State (11-3) defeated the Longhorns (12-2) 6-4 Wednesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Â
The Longhorns got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the first behind three hits. They would score once again in the second. The frame ended with a relay throw from Wuthrich to
Cameron Gibbons, who made a perfect throw to
Peyton Lewis to catch a runner between the bags and tagged him out after a short rundown.
Â
With one out in the third, Lewis singled to right for TXST's first hit of the night. Ortega-Jones worked a walk and immediately afterwards saw UT make a pitching change. On the first pitch to Wuthrich, the senior outfielder smashed it into the Bobcats' bullpen in left field to tie the game.

Dalton Shuffield singled through the right side to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch allowed Gonzalez to score and Shuffield advanced to second. The senior shortstop moved to third on a passed ball and would later scamper home on a second passed ball to put the Bobcats ahead 5-3.
Â
The lead was extended to three runs when Oretga-Jones smashed his second home run of the season to left field in the fourth.
Â
In the fifth, UT got a sacrifice fly from Murphy Stehly to cut the Bobcats' advantage to 6-4.

The right-hander fell behind 2-0 before evening up the count. After he threw another ball was thrown to bring up a full count, Stivors got the power hitting Longhorn looking on a breaking ball for the strikeout and wrap up the victory.
