Bobcats Win Seventh Straight

Texas State puts away Little Rock 68-50 on Senior Night

SAN MARCOS, TexasMason Harrell scored 19 points, including 12 in the second half, while Nighael Ceasar added 12 points as Texas State moved one game closer to securing a Sun Belt championship by beating Little Rock 68-50 on Saturday at Strahan Arena.

The victory over Little Rock (8-16, 3-9 Sun Belt) put Texas State (19-6, 10-3 Sun Belt) in position to clinch its second straight conference championship by needing only one win in its final two games. The win also clinched at least a top-three seed for the Sun Belt tournament.

The Bobcats won their seventh straight – one short of matching their season-long – by never trailing for the second game in a row. They led by as much as 14 points in the first half, and despite Little Rock closing it within one on two occasions early in the second, they managed to hold a double-digit advantage for the last 10 minutes of the night.

Harrell's 19 points marked his fifth straight game with double-digit scoring and 15th such effort this year. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 3-of-7 from three-point range to help him score at least 19 points for the third time in the last four games. The senior was one of five recognized before the game for Senior Night.

Fellow honorees Caleb Asberry (8 points), Shelby Adams (6), Isiah Small (4) and Darien Jenkins (2) all contributed points in Texas State's second-largest win over a conference opponent this year.

Ceasar was the only other Bobcat in double-digit scoring, but nine of the 11 Texas State players who appeared in the game contributed points. Ceasar was 6-of-7 from the field and added a team-high eight rebounds.

Texas State ended the night shooting 52.3% from the field (23-of-44) and 33.3% from three (7-of-21).

Defensively, the Bobcats limited the Trojans to 40% shooting (19-of-48) and only four three-pointers on 19 attempts (21%).

Texas State led 31-26 at halftime thanks to a 14-0 run in the first six minutes of the game. Four different Bobcats scored in the burst, including a three-pointer and lay-up from Harrell. An Asberry three-pointer capped it and made it 16-2 Texas State at the 13:39 mark.

Little Rock crawled back, though, by closing it to the five-point deficit at halftime with a Jovan Stulic three-pointer to close out the first.

Harrell gave Texas State the first points of the second with one of his three three-pointers, but seven straight points by Little Rock made it 34-33 Texas State at 16:22.

The two sides traded three-pointers, but the Bobcats held the Trojans without a field goal for nearly five minutes while they made four straight shots on the other end to take a double-digit advantage once again. A lay-up by Ceasar put Texas State ahead at 48-38 with 11:27 left.

The Bobcats closed out the game 5-of-8 shooting in the final 10 minutes.

Texas State travels to South Alabama for its penultimate game of the regular season. Tip-off in Mobile is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
