Bobcats and Bearkats to Meet Saturday on the Hardwood

SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the first time in 10 years, the Texas State men's basketball team (6-5) will face off against Sam Houston (8-2) when the teams meet on Saturday in Strahan Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox calling the action. Fans can also tune into KTSW 89.9 FM and the Varsity Sports Network app to listen to Clint Shields on the call.
 
About Texas State
Coming off his sixth 20-point game of the year, Mason Harrell increased his scoring average to 18.5 points per game. He shares the team lead of 27 assists with Drue Drinnon. Also with a double-digit scoring mark is Nighael Ceaser at 11.7 ppg and he leads the team with 7.7 rpg.
 
Five Bobcats have recorded at least 10 steals led by Davion Sykes. Entering the game, Brandon Love has blocked a team-high 14 shots and Tuongthach Gatkek is right behind him with 12 rejections.
 
About Sam Houston
The Bearkats are coming off a 79-53 win on the road at ULM on Wednesday. They began the year with six consecutive wins but are 3-2 over their last five contests. Losses this year have been on the road to Nevada and Oklahoma State.
 
Qua Grant leads Sam Houston in scoring (12.5), assists (48) and steals (25). The only other player with a double-digit mark is Donte Powers at 10.2 ppg. Javion Mays is grabbing a team-high 4.7 rpg while Tristan Ikpe and Grant are both retrieving 4.3 boards a contest.

Saturday will be the 177th meeting between Texas State and Sam Houston. It is the most games for the Bobcats against an opponent in program history and they hold a 92-84 lead in the series. The Bearkats have won the last three games with the most recent being a 63-61 contest in San Marcos on Mar. 3, 2012. Last time TXST beat Sam Houston was Jan. 19, 2011 in Strahan Arena by a score of 95-91.
