Bobcats and Ram Battle for the First Time

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team begins a stretch of playing seven straight games away from Strahan Arena on Saturday when it faces Rhode Island. Tip for the contest is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT at The Ryan Center.
 
Entering the contest, the Bobcats are 1-1 on the year after defeating Mid-America Christian on Thursday in the home opener while the Rams are 0-1.
 
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and fans can also catch the action on the Varsity Sports Network with Brant Freeman on the call.
 
About Texas State
TXST is led offensively by Mason Harrell at 15.0 points per game. Dylan Dawson is contributing 10.0 ppg while Davion Sykes has netted double-digit points in his first two career contests to average 11.0 ppg. Sykes is the first TXST freshman to tally 10 or more points in the first two games of their career since Nijal Pearson in 2016 to being his legendary career.
 
Nate Martin comes in grabbing a team best 5.0 rpg and Harrell is retrieving 4.5 per contest. In the first two games, Brandon Love has blocked two shots in each of them.
 
About Rhode Island
The Rams' only game so far was on Monday that ended 67-62 in favor of Quinnipiac. Saturday is the second of three straight home games for URI.
 
Ishmael Leggett scored a team-high 14 points while grabbing five rebounds and totaling three assists and steals in the season opener. Malik Martin put up 11 points and retrieved a team best eight rebounds. He also finished with three steals and two blocks. Also netting double-digit points was Sebastian Thomas with 10.

Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between Texas State and Rhode Island.
 
Only One
Harrell is the only player in Texas State history to have recorded 1,000 points and 300 assists. The fifth-year senior has scored 1,079 points and dished out 308 assists. He currently ranks 19th in program history for points and needs five more to surpass Jeff Foster for 18th place and nine more to move ahead of Willie Terrell for 17th.
