SAN MARCOS, Texas – In the latest States Up podcast, Texas State football wide receiver
Ashtyn Hawkins stops in amidst his great start to the 2022 season to discuss his mentality as a slot receiver, who he models his game after, and more.
Â
Hawkins is in his second year at Texas State after transferring from Cisco College. The DeSoto, Texas native is tied for seventh in the country in receptions this year with 34 while he is also tied for 14th in receiving touchdowns. In the game at #17 Baylor earlier this season, he set the program record for catches in a game with 13.
Â
In the podcast, Hawkins looks back at some of those early season performances and shares how he is not satisfied yet. He also discusses his path from one year of varsity football in high school to where he is today, how he uses his size to motivate himself, what he does to prepare himself each week in his free time, and what makes a good wide receiver.
