SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (12-5, 3-2 Sun Belt) hits the road to take on UT Arlington (8-11, 4-4 Sun Belt) Thursday night. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside the College Park Center.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and fans can also catch the action on the Varsity Sports Network and KTSW 89.9 FM with
Clint Shields.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Last weekend saw the Bobcats split a road trip to Arkansas with a victory over Little Rock before falling to Arkansas State by seven on Saturday.
Caleb Asberry leads TXST in scoring at 14.2 ppg. He has made 45.3% of his shots with 35 made three-pointers and he ranks third in the conference with a 84.3 free throw percentage.
Isiah Small is contributing 11.5 ppg and a team-high 7.0 rpg while
Mason Harrell is netting 10.3 ppg along with dishing out a team best 2.8 apg.
SCOUTING UT ARLINGTON
The Mavericks won their first three conference games but have dropped four of their last five including three straight. Last weekend saw them fall to Arkansas State by five and at Little Rock by two in triple overtime.
David Azore leads UTA in scoring at 18.5 ppg having made 40.1% from the field and is 92-of-117 (82.9%) at the free throw line. Patrick Mwamba is netting 10.3 ppg while Kaodinchi Akobundu-Ehiogu is grabbing a team-high 5.1 rpg and leads the Sun Belt with 50 blocks.
SERIES HISTORY
UTA leads the all-time series 40-36 but Texas State has won the last three meetings beginning with an 87-85 victory in triple overtime on Feb. 28, 2020. Last season, the Bobcats claimed a 63-56 win on the road behind a 19-point, 7-assist performance by Harrell. The Bobcats are 13-22 all-time when playing the Mavericks on the road.
