SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State football team (0-1) mounted a late comeback, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Baylor Bears (1-0) as the Bobcats dropped a 29-20 decision in front of a crowd of 26,573 Saturday night at Bobcat Stadium.

Texas State's defense recovered a fumble, forced three punts, and held the Bears on downs in the fourth quarter.
Troy Lefeged, Jr. recorded 10 tackles in his first game for the Bobcats, while
Zion Childress had seven stops and forced a fumble.
The Bears outgained Texas State 386 -to-238 yards on offense, and scored eight points, intercepted three passes, and caused a safety on defense.
Baylor gained 238 yards and scored two touchdowns on the ground, while the Bobcats rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown.
Jahmyl Jeter led Texas State with 45 yards rushing and scored a touchdown on eight carries.
Calvin Hill ran for 31 yards on nine carries. Two Bears rushed for over 100 yards as Trestan Ebner gained 120 yards on 20 carries, and Abram Smith ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts.
Brady McBride threw for 156 yards and a touchdown while completing 20 of his 40 passes. Meanwhile, Gerry Bohanan connected on 15 of his 24 passes for 148 yards.

Texas State's defense recovered a fumble on Baylor's opening drive to thwart a scoring threat at TXST's 20-yard line. The Bobcats also forced three punts and held the Bears on downs.
Baylor scored the first points when JT Woods returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown.
The Bobcats fought back to take a 10-7 lead with 6:41 left to play in the first half when
Seth Keller kicked a 21-yard field goal, and McBride threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to
Marcell Barbee.
Marcell Barbee caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from
Brady McBride to cap an 11 play, 77-yard drive. Keller added the extra point to give Texas State the lead.
Keller kicked another field goal from 38 yards out to pull Texas State to within 24-13 with 45 seconds left to play in the third quarter.
Texas State's final touchdown came on a two-yard run by
Jahmyl Jeter after he ran for 36 yards on the drive. His touchdown pulled Texas State to within 27-20 with 1:19 left to play.
The Bobcats could not recover the onside kick, and after the defense held the Bears on downs, the Bears scored a safety on the game's final play.

Texas State's wide receiver
Marcell Barbee recorded his 11th career touchdown reception in the second quarter and moved into a tie for seventh place among Texas State's career leaders. Barbee ranked seventh in the nation last season with 10 TD catches.
Brady McBride threw his 18th career touchdown pass to Barbee. McBride has thrown a touchdown pass in each of the 10 games he has played as a Bobcat.
Seth Keller's two field goals give him eight straight successful attempts dating back to last season.
