‘We Made a Jump Today:’ Bobcats continue to put pieces in place against Aggies

SAN MARCOS, Texas — It wasn't the result Texas State volleyball fans wanted Tuesday night against Texas A&M, but it was progress in the right direction, according to head coach Sean Huiet, despite the Aggies knocking off the Bobcats in straight sets.

In front of a season-high 836 attendees Tuesday night, Texas State (2-8) raced out to a 17-13 advantage in the first set. But a 7-3 Aggie run tied the set at 20-20. Texas A&M (7-2) continued the run by scoring five of the next six points to win the set.

The second set was a lot of the same from the first set as Texas State held an 11-7 lead, then eventually a 21-19 advantage until Texas A&M went on another 6-1 scoring run to close out the set.

Set three was a battle through and through as there were 18 ties with the latest coming at 24-24. Texas State went ahead 25-24 on an attack error, but Texas A&M closed out the match with a kill and back-to-back Bobcat attack errors.

FROM HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET

"I don't love losing, but I thought we finally put some things together tonight and took a step in the right direction. You don't see it on the scoreboard, per se, but we made a jump today. Again, I don't like losing and won't ever say good things about losing, but we saw some things from this team that we hadn't seen in a while."
