SAN MARCOS, Texas — Following seven matches on the road to begin the fall portion of its 2021 volleyball schedule, Texas State opened the Bobcat Invitational inside Strahan Arena with a four-set win over Alabama to begin the day. Unfortunately, the Miami Hurricanes crashed the party with a three-set victory over the Bobcats to close out the day.
Texas State (2-7) began the day in dominate fashion by taking the first set over the Crimson Tide (5-3) by nine points. After the Bobcats dropped the second by two points, they bounced back to win the next two by three-point margins.
After a pre-match ceremony to honor Texas State's accomplishments during the 2020-21 volleyball season, the Hurricanes (7-0) spoiled the evening as Miami kept its perfect season alive with a seven-point margin in the first followed by back-to-back three-point set wins to finish the night.
FROM HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET
"Besides the ending that scared me, I thought we played pretty well (against Alabama). We knew what Alabama was going to bring to the table. We keep talking with our kids and telling them we just want to get better every match and I think everyone is seeing that. We are getting ready to make that next jump and being good from start to finish and getting the lows and highs out and just maintaining a constant level of play. All in all, I thought we did a pretty good job today (against Alabama)."

MATCH NOTES
- In Texas State's opening match, junior middle blocker Tessa Marshall became the first Bobcat in the fall 2021 season to record double-digit total blocks in a match. The 6-foot-1, Round Rock native was credited with a match-high 10 block assists in Texas State's four-set victory over Alabama.
- Megan Wood recorded her third career kill when she made her season debut in the third set against Miami. Wood, who appeared in only one set as a freshman in 2020, came in off the bench and converted a Brooke Johnson set to cut the Bobcats' deficit to two at 12-10.
- Also, during the third set against the Hurricanes, senior defensive specialist Kayla Granado was credited with her 1,000th career dig. She joins fellow senior Brooke Johnson and Emily DeWalt as the only active Bobcat student-athletes to have over 1,000 career digs. Johnson accomplished the feat on Sept. 4, 2021, against then-No. 6 Ohio State. DeWalt surpassed the milestone against North Texas on March 25, 2021.
