AUSTIN, Texas – Texas State kept pace with No. 5 Texas but three late inning runs saw the Longhorns claim a 4-1 win Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Bobcats drop to 19-27 on the season while the Longhorns are now 36-11.

Suffering the loss was
Triston Dixon (0-2) as he surrendering the go-ahead run in an inning of relief. Cole Quintanilla (4-0) struck out three in two scoreless frames to pick up the win. Aaron Nixon closed out the game in the ninth to earn his sixth save.

Trevis Sundgren had three strikeouts and allowed a run on three hits and walks in five innings starting on the rubber.
Reece Gould thew an inning of relief with a strikeout. Also seeing action on the mound was
Matthew Nicholas and
Austin Smith.

Recording a hit apiece for TXST was
Cole Coffey,
Jaxon Williams and
John Wuthrich. The lone run came on Coffey's eighth home run of the season. Wuthrich also stole his fourth base of the season as well.

In the bottom of the second, the first two batters for the Longhorns reached on singles. After a sacrifice bunt, Trey Faltine hit a hard grounder to
Dalton Shuffield. The junior shortstop threw to third to get the runner and hold UT to just a run in the frame.

The Bobcats nearly got on the scoreboard in the fourth that began with a Wuthrich single. He swiped second and moved to third on a ground out but was left stranded.

Coffey tied the game in the fifth with a solo shot over the right field wall on a 2-2 pitch. It was his first homer away from Bobcat Ballpark.

UT retook the lead in the sixth when Zach Zubia led off the frame with a home run to right. The Longhorns tacked on an insurance run in the eighth and ninth to extend their advantage to 4-1.

Next up for the Bobcats is a non-conference series with South Alabama in San Marcos. The series begins on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
