MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In his final start in a Texas State uniform, senior right-hander
Zachary Leigh posted a dominate performance on the mound. However, Appalachian State came away with a 1-0 victory Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Â
Leigh (4-8) struck out five in 7.2 innings while allowing a run on five hits. Ben Petersen (2-3) earned the victory after throwing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts out of the bullpen. Eli Ellington picked up his fifth save of the season as he tossed three scoreless frames and struck out four.
Â
Recording a hit for the Bobcats was
Jose Gonzalez,
Will Hollis,
Justin Thompson and
Jaxon Williams. Hollis' hit was a double, the 34th of his career to move into a tie for 11th in program history.
Â
Texas State recorded hits in the second, third and fourth innings along with getting runners on in the fifth and sixth but left all of them stranded on base.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, the Mountaineers struck for the lone run of the game on an RBI single off the bat of Luke Drumheller.
Â
Hollis would double off the left center wall with an out in the top of the ninth. He would be lifted for pinch runner
Ben McClain. However, a groundout and strikeout would end the game with TXST's sixth runner left on base.
Â
The season concludes for the Bobcats on Wednesday against Louisiana. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
