Bobcats Drop Contest at Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas State baseball team (17-25) dropped a 4-0 contest to Texas A&M (24-19) Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park.

Austin Smith (2-3) took the loss as he allowed two runs on three hits and struck out two in two innings of work while making his first career start. Picking up the win was Jonathan Childress (3-4) after tossing five innings with four strikeouts and giving up four hits. Chris Weber earned his first save of the season with four scoreless innings to close out the contest.

Justin Thompson led the Bobcats at the plate with a 2-for-4 day. Also recording a base knock apiece was Bryce Bonner, Jose Gonzalez and John Wuthrich.

Wuthrich and Thompson recorded back-to-back singles and Gonzalez was walked to load the bases with two outs. However, the Aggies' Childress was able to induce a fly out to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard.

TAMU would take the lead in the bottom of the frame on an Austin Bost two-run home run.

In the fourth, Texas State got two singles from Bonner and Gonzalez but were held scoreless in the frame.

The Aggies tacked on another run in the seventh on a throwing error to the plate to extend their advantage to 3-0.

In the next inning, TAMU tacked on an insurance run via an RBI single.

TXST continues its road swing with a three-game series at Louisiana. The series begins on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
