SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State women's basketball program added an additional student-athlete to its 2020-21 recruiting class as Jo'Nah "Boogie" Johnson has joined the Bobcats, the team announced.
Johnson comes to San Marcos after spending the previous two seasons at Texas Tech University after signing with the Red Raiders from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College as a sophomore and Central Oklahoma as a freshman.
"Jo'Nah's paper resume speaks for itself," said Texas State women's basketball head coach
Zenarae Antoine. "Whether it is high school — where she led her team to the state tournament multiple years in a row — or junior college — where she was Freshman of the Year and an All-Region selection — or playing in the Big 12 Conference, where she will be receiving her degree, Jo'Nah is a winner!"
"Her personal pride, drive and family support are what has led to her success. Sunny San Marvelous welcomes Jo'Nah Marie and her family."
As a freshman at Central Oklahoma, Johnson was named the 2018 MIAA Freshman of the Year after averaging 8.6 points per game as a Broncho. The following season, Johnson was named to the Region II All-Region and All-Tournament Team after averaging 15.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.3 rebounds at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Johnson appeared in 27 games in her first season at Texas Tech during the 2019-20 season, when she averaged 23.8 minutes per game en route to averaging 6.8 points, 3.9 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals. Her 3.9 assists per game ranked seventh in the Big 12 Conference during the same, while her 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio led the team and ranked eighth in the conference.
Johnson scored a season-high 23 points in Texas Tech's win over Sam Houston State. She finished the season leading the Lady Raiders in assists 11 times, recording seven double-digit scoring performances and nine games of 5-or-more assists. She shot 83.8 percent (31-37) from the free throw line to lead the team.

What they are saying about Jo'Nah Johnson …
"Jo'Nah was one of the best point guards in the state of Oklahoma — by far — because of her ability to handle the ball, score, get her teammates involved and play defense. She is a smart player and the leader that her team will value very much."
- Coach Paul Bass, former head coach at Edmond Santa Fe, current head coach at Newcastle HS
"To quote from one of my favorite movies: 'attitude reflects leadership,' and (Jo'Nah) embodies that. She is the epitome of a student-athlete. She is a floor general, a hype man on and off the court and a student at practice."
- Coach Shillalie Jones, Assistant Women's Basketball Coach, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College
"Jo'Nah provided a lot of things for us. Her ability to score in different ways was a big asset. She could get to the rim, had a great mid-range jumper and could shoot the three. Her athleticism allowed us to really be able to guard in the half-court as well. Her knowledge of the game is like having another coach on the floor."
- Coach Jim Rowland, Head Women's Basketball Coach, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College
