SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team won the top three singles matches, but the Bobcats were edged 4-3 by UT Arlington after surrendering the doubles point at the Bobcat Tennis Complex Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULT
Texas State (5-12, 0-7 in Sun Belt) dropped a pair of hard-fought double matches in the No. 1 and No. 3 contests as UTA (16-3, 8-0 in Sun Belt) took an early 1-0 lead.
Chacadyah Israel-Lewis and
Renata Gonzalez fell 6-4 against Carla Pons and Almudena Boza on the No. 3 court. Then,
Hana Kvapilova and
Rishona Israel-Lewis suffered a 7-5 setback against Liz Chileno and Nanaka Takeuchi in the No. 1 match.
SINGLES RESULTS
The Bobcats won the top three seeded singles matches when
Hana Kvapilova,
Rishona Israel-Lewis, and
Nikita Pradeep claimed victories.
The No. 1 contest featured a pair of players with undefeated Sun Belt Conference records. In that match, Kvapilova had overcome a frustrating start against Momoka Horiguchi to win the match 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 after winning the super tiebreaker in third set 10-5.
R. Israel-Lewis won the No. 2-seeded match in straight sets over Liz Chileno by a score of 7-5, 6-4. Pradeep won her No. 3-seeded contest after Polina Akimova retired because of injury.
The three victories came after the Mavs won the other three matches.
Sofia Murcia-Rodriguez fell 6-0, 6-1 against Carla Pons in the No. 4-seeded contest.
Chacadyah Israel-Lewis suffered a 6-1, 6-3 setback against Lucia Natal on the No. 5 court, and
Renata Gonzalez fell 6-3, 6-3 versus Almudena Boza on the No. 6 court.
