SAN MARCOS, Texas – The final home non-conference game of the season for the Texas State men's basketball team takes place on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Strahan Arena. The Bobcats (8-2) will be going for their eighth consecutive win while the Tigers (8-0) look to remain undefeated.
Texas State will be hosting a holiday toy drive on Saturday. Fans are stronlgy encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy that can be dropped off in the main entrance of the Univesity Events Center. In partnership with the men's basketball team and St. Vincent de Paul, the toys will be donated to the Hays County Brown Santa program.
BOBCATS CONTINUE HOMESTAND
The Bobcats will be closing out a four-game homestand on Saturday. They opened with a 71-58 victory over Denver before following with a 101-54 triumph over Southwestern. Wednesday night saw TXST claim a 67-57 win against Lamar.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Leading the way for the Bobcats offensively is
Caleb Asberry at 14.5 ppg while shooting 45.5% from the field and has made a team-high 21 three-pointers. Also averaging double-figures in scoring is
Mason Harrell (10.7) and
Isiah Small (11.4). In addition, Small leads the team in rebounding at 7.1 per game.
SCOUTING PAUL QUINN
Under the direction of Brandon Espinosa, Paul Quinn has won its first eight games on average by 17.7 points. The Tigers played and lost four other Division I opponents (Missouri, Southeastern Louisiana, Tarleton State, UTRGV) this season that counted as exhibitions for them. The top three scorers on the team are Spencer McElway (14.5), Ja'mare Redus (11.8) and Trevoin Shaw (13.5).
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the second ever meeting between the programs. Texas State came away with a 113-87 victory on Dec. 30, 2007 in Dallas as part of the SMU Invitational.
