SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior
Jaeda Reed scored a career-high 19 points Monday night in the Texas State women's basketball team's 69-57 setback to UTEP.
Â
The Lawton, Oklahoma native converted 8-of-9 shots from the field and went 3-for-5 at the free throw line. She also grabbed seven rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded a steal.
Â
With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 4-3 on the year while the Miners are now 6-1.
Â
UTEP jumper out to an 8-0 lead before
Jo'Nah Johnson knocked down the first of her two three-pointers in the contest.
Ja'Kayla Bowie added a fastbreak layup to cut the deficit to three.
Â
Down by 13,
Kennedy Taylor converted a charity stripe attempt and Reed put back a missed free throw to make it a 10-point game to close out the first quarter.
Â
Reed made three layups to make it a 25-19 contest with 7:21 left in the second quarter. The Miners would go on a 9-0 run to extend their advantage back to double-digits. A layup by
Tianna Eaton with just over a minute left in the half would be the final basket as TXST went into the break down by 12.
Â
Three points from Reed and a fastbreak layup courtesy of Taylor to start the third pulled the Bobcats to within 40-33. That would be as close as they would get as UTEP went on a 14-3 run over a near six-minute span.
Â
Bowie nearly recorded a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Taylor added 12 points, four rebounds and two steals on the night.
Â
Next up for Texas State is the final home game in the calendar year on Thursday against Dartmouth. The matinee contest will see tipoff at 1 p.m.
