SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team closed out its non-conference home slate with a 62-39 setback to Dartmouth Thursday afternoon at Strahan Arena.
The Bobcats drop to 5-5 on the season while the Big Green are now 1-10.
After the teams traded layups to open the game, Dartmouth went on a 9-2 run.
Presley Bennett knocked down a trey to cut the deficit to four. That would be as close as TXST would get the rest of the game as the visitors eventually stretched their advantage to 32-14 with 4:55 left in the second quarter.
Seven of the final 10 points of the half were scored by Texas State with the final basket being Bennett's second three-point of the contest.
Gabby Standifer scored the Bobcats' first eight points of the third including back-to-back three-pointers to cut the deficit to 11 and force a Dartmouth timeout. However, the Big Green answered with a 10-0 run that was snapped by a two free throws courtesy for
Kennedy Taylor.
The Bobcats were edged out 9-8 in the final quarter with half of the team's points coming from
Raven Adams.
Standifer led Texas State with eight points while
Lauryn Thompson and
Jaeda Reed contributed six points apiece. Taylor dished out a game-high eight assists and led the squad with six rebounds. Both she and Hood were credited with a team leading two steals.
Next up for the Bobcats is a two-game trip to California to close out non-conference beginning with a meeting against Loyola Marymount on Saturday at 4 p.m. CT.
