Three Bobcats record double-doubles as Texas State beats Little Rock

SAN MARCOS, Texas — For the third time this season, three Texas State volleyball student-athletes were credited with a double-double in a single match following Friday night's four-set win over Little Rock.

Against the Trojans (14-12, 5-9), Tyeranee Scott finished with 10 kills and 10 blocks, while Janell Fitzgerald concluded the evening with 18 kills and 12 digs. Bobcat senior setter Emily DeWalt was credited with 41 assists and 14 digs on the night, too, to round out the trio.

Texas State (15-11, 11-2) also accomplished the feat in a four-set win at Troy on Friday, Sept. 24, and a three-set victory at Arkansas State on Saturday, Oct. 16. DeWalt, who recorded her 64th career double-double, and Fitzgerald, who now has 10 career double-doubles after posting one in her last three straight matches, were also a part of the feat against the Trojans and Red Wolves.

Scott's double-double Friday night marked the first of her Bobcat career as she became the 10th active Texas State volleyball student-athlete to be credited with a double-double in a match.

FROM HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET

"We just talked a little bit in (the locker rooms) about how we've been really good offensively as of late, and that was different tonight. But we stepped up big time defensively; digging 95 balls and blocking 16 balls in four sets is big time. So, we know when we're able to combine both our offense and defense at the same time, we're going to be really good. Tonight, we were just a little off offensively, but at this point in the season, you have to grind out some wins."

MATCH NOTES
  • Texas State's current nine-game winning streak — all against conference opponents — is the longest since the Bobcats won 17 straight from Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, to Friday, Nov. 13, 2020. The 17-game winning streak last season included 15 straight victories over Sun Belt Conference foes following two wins over Houston Baptist.
  • The 16.0 (3 solos, 26 assists) blocks against the Trojans Friday night set a new season high for the Bobcats. Texas State's previous high this season in blocks in a single match was 15.0 (3 solos, 24 assists) at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021. Friday night marked just the ninth time this season TXST finished a match with 10-or-more total blocks.
  • The 95 total digs by Texas State Friday night tied the Bobcats with Niagara (MAAC), USC Upstate (Big South) and Nicholls (Southland) for the 20th-most digs by a team in a four-set match this season. The previous high by a Sun Belt team this season was 93 by Arkansas State against Little Rock on Oct. 5, 2021.
  • The Texas State defense held Little Rock's offense to a .000 attack percentage for the night. The Trojans were credited with 37 kills and 37 attack errors on 173 total attacks.
