Texas State to close out the regular season with two-game tilt through Louisiana

SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State volleyball program will look to closeout its 2021 fall regular-season schedule on a high note when the Bobcats play at ULM on Friday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m., then at Louisiana on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS

Earlier in the week, Texas State senior middle blocker Tyeranee Scott was named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week following a 14-block weekend. She became the third different Bobcat volleyball student-athlete to pick up a weekly conference honor joining senior outside hitter Janell Fitzgerald (Offensive) and senior setter Emily DeWalt (Setter).

Texas State (16-11, 12-2) will head into the weekend having already clinched the top seed in the West Division for next week's postseason conference tournament. The Bobcats will open play on Friday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CT in the quarterfinals against the winner of a match between the East Division's fourth seed and West Division's fifth seed.

Texas State senior setter Emily DeWalt enters this weekend's final two matches of the 2021 fall season as the only student-athlete in the Sun Belt Conference averaging 11.00-or-more assists per set. In 61 sets played, DeWalt has been credited with 671 assists (11.00 assists per set). Troy's Amara Anderson (10.59) and South Alabama's Kailey Keeble (10.43) are the only other student-athletes in the conference to average double-digit assists per set.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

Louisiana (14-8, 9-5) enters the weekend tied with Texas State for second among the 12 volleyball teams within the Sun Belt Conference with a .238 attack percentage. Through 91 total sets played this season, the Ragin' Cajuns have been credited with 1,119 kills and 390 errors on 3,062 total attacks. The 390 attack errors are the fewest in the conference by 31.

ULM (5-24, 1-13) enters tomorrow night's match against Texas State with a .128 hitting percentage, the lowest in the conference. Through 95 sets played this season, the Warhawks have been credited with 963 kills and 522 errors on 3,447 total attacks. ULM is the only team in the conference to not have at least 1,000 kills on the season yet.

Louisiana enters this weekend second in the Sun Belt Conference' West Division, while ULM is in sixth place. The Ragin' Cajuns' nine conference wins so far this season are the fourth-most wins against conference foes among the league's 12 teams.
