FOLEY, Ala. – The Texas State soccer team battled and clawed for 90 minutes but came out on the short-end of a 2-1 contest with Appalachian State Monday afternoon at the Foley Sports Complex.

With the loss, the Bobcats conclude their season 7-8-2 overall while the Mountaineers are now 7-10-1 and will face Georgia State in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

APP got the scoring started in the 10th minute when Brecklyn Monteith was able to dribble by a couple of defenders and send her shot past the goalkeeper.

In the 21st minute, the Bobcats forced a turnover in APP's defensive half. A give and go between
Alana Clark and
Kamaria Williams ended with Williams sending a cross into the box.
Kiara Gonzales charged into the box and slammed the shot into he back of the net to tie the match 1-1.

Zoe Junior saw
Mya Ulloa get her head on the ball. However, the keeper made a diving save to keep the contest tied late in the 30th minute.

In the 52nd minute, a bad clearance allowed the Mountaineers' Audrey Viso to put a long distance shot into the top right corner to back up in front 2-1.

TXST had three opportunities in a 20-second span to tie the match. One shot was stopped by the keeper, another hit off a defender and the third attempt via Clark went just over the crossbar.

Zoe Junior saw them go over the bar and get gloved by the keeper, respectively.

A late charge in the final minutes was able to produce a long attempt by
Gabie Jones that was retrieved out of the air.

The Bobcats outshot the Mountaineers 17-6 led by Junior's four attempts. Both Gonzales and Ulla took three shots apiece.

Beth Agee made one save on the afternoon in her 13th start of the season.
