Four with double-digit kills as Texas State sweeps Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Texas State offense was humming in the Bobcats' three-set victory over Little Rock Friday night as — for the match — Texas State was credited with 62 kills on a .370 attack percentage.

For the eighth time this season, Maryland transfer Jada Gardner led Texas State (9-11, 5-2) in kills with a match-high 18 on 31 total attacks. Janell Fitzgerald, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week, continued to wreak havoc against opposing defenses as the senior outside hitter added 13 kills.

Both Tessa Marshall and Caitlan Buettner flirted with career and season highs as Marshall finished with 11 kills — one shy of tying her career high, last accomplished at Texas Tech on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 — while Buettner had 11 kills, which were two off tying her season high, last done against UTEP on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. Tyeranee Scott nearly made it five Bobcats with double-digit kills, but the senior middle blocker finished with eight kills on 12 total attacks.

FROM HEAD COACH SEAN HUIET

"I thought our offense was really good tonight. We passed well and Emily (DeWalt) did a great job making decisions and sticking with the game plan. To have four student-athletes with double-digit kills is big and (Tyeranee) was only two away, too. I thought our blocking was off — a little bit — but we dug 19 balls a set, which allowed us to create more offense. I really like how we stayed composed and we were able to get the win in three (sets)."

MATCH NOTES
  • For the 62nd time in her Texas State volleyball career, senior setter Emily DeWalt was credited with a double-double as she finished Friday night's three-set match with match-highs 45 assists and 14 digs. It's DeWalt's seven double-double of the season and first since having 24 assists and 12 digs at South Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021.
  • Friday night's 62 kills were the second-most kills in a match by the Bobcats this season after having 72 in five sets against Tarleton State on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. Texas State's win over Little Rock on Friday evening marked just the second time this season the Bobcats recorded 60-or-more kills in a match.
  • The Texas State offense also recorded its second-highest attack percentage in a single match this season against Little Rock on Friday night. Against the Trojans, the Bobcats hit .370, which was only topped by a .435 clip against ULM on Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.
