SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State senior wide receiver and return specialist
Jeremiah Haydel has been named a Second-Team All-America selection as a punt returner by Phil Steele Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Haydel's selection is the third All-America award that he received this season. ESPN named Haydel an All-America return specialist, and the Football Writers of America named him a Second-Team All-American punt returner.
Â
Haydel ranked third nationally and led the Sun Belt Conference in combined kick return yards with 687 yards. He was one of only two NCAA Division I FBS players to return a kickoff and punt for a touchdown.
Â
His 91-yard punt return against UTSA was the nation's longest punt return this season and came in the first game of his career in which he returned punts.
Â
Haydel ranked seventh nationally and led the Sun Belt in punt return average with 13.0 yards per game after returning 16 punts for 208 yards.
Â
Phil Steele chose Haydel as a First-Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as a punt returner and a Second-Team kickoff returner on Tuesday. The Sun Belt Conference coaches and selected media named him an All-Sun Belt Conference Second-Team selection as a return specialist and all-purpose player.
Â
He finished the season as the only Sun Belt Conference player to have single 100-yard games in receiving, kickoff returns, and punt returns.
Â
Haydel tied for the team lead with 40 receptions and had career-bests of 408 receiving yards and four touchdown receptions.
