SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Sun Belt Conference and ESPN announced Wednesday that the Texas State football team will kick off its 2020 season with a nationally-televised game on ESPN when the Bobcats host SMU at 3:30 p.m. on September 5 at Bobcat Stadium. Anish Shroff, Tom Luginbill, and Kris Budden are the announcers for the game.
The Bobcats are in their second season under second-year head coach
Jake Spavital, who will be calling the offensive plays in 2020. Spavital began his head coaching career in 2019 after serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Texas A&M, Cal, and West Virginia.
SMU head coach Sonny Dykes begins his third season at SMU after leading the Mustangs to a historic 10-3 season in 2019. The 10 wins were the most victories for the Mustangs since 1984 and the sixth 10-win season in school history.
Following the SMU game, Texas State is scheduled to host I-35 rival UTSA in a non-conference game on September 12 at Bobcat Stadium.
