SAN MARCOS, Texas – Junior
Isaiah Ortega-Jones drove in five runs as the Texas State baseball team (14-4) defeated Prairie View A&M (4-15) 11-4 Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Ballpark. The victory extended the Bobcats' winning streak to seven games.

Freshman
Isaac Ponce (1-0) earned his first collegiate win as he threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Suffering the loss was Caleb Hines (0-1) as he surrendred three runs on three hits and walks.

Cade Bullinger tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Also pitching an inning for TXST were
Jacob Little,
Matthew Nicholas,
Otto Wofford and
Dontae Woodard.

Along with driving in five runs, Ortega-Jones also went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Cameron Gibbons had a career day with a 4-for-5 performance, four runs scored and three RBI. Josh Wuthrich also had a multi-hit game with two hits. Scoring twice were
Wesley Faison and
Dalton Shuffield.

Will Hollis began the scoring for Texas State with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Gibbons plated his first run in the third. Following a walk to
Colton Moore to load the bases, Ortega-Jones blasted the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a grand slam and his first home run in a Bobcat uniform.

Ortega-Jones drove in his fifth run of the game in the fifth with a single through the left side.

The Panthers tallied three runs during the sixth behind two Bobcat errors.

In the bottom half of the inning, TXST responded with three runs of its own. The first came on a wild pitch that saw Wuthrich scampered home. Gibbons added another run on a fielder's choice that saw PVAMU unable to complete the double play and a wild throw allow the third run to score.

Gibbons capped off the scoring for the Bobcats in the eighth with a solo homer over the left field netting that landed on the softball field.

The Panthers tacked on the final run of the game in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly hit by Alex Martinez.

Next up for TXST is a weekend series with Appalachian State at Bobcat Ballpark. The first game is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday.
