SAN MARCOS, Texas – For the second straight game, the Texas Stat women's basketball team (8-13, 1-9 Sun Belt) attempted a fourth quarter comeback but were unable to pull off the feat as Coastal Carolina (18-3, 8-2 Sun Belt) held on for a 69-59 win in Strahan Arena Thursday night.
Â
Down by 15 to start the fourth, the Bobcats began the period on a 9-1 run behind three layups from
Kennedy Taylor and
Da'Nasia Hood's fourth straight three-pointer of the game. The triple extended the sophomore forward to 11 consecutive makes from beyond the arc before it came to an end later in the period.
Â
Twice TXST got to within five in the quarter with both coming after
Chelsea Johnson buckets. First came with 4:27 left on the clock after a layup to make it 61-56 in favor of the Chanticleers. The second time wouldn't come again until the 1:34 mark when Johnson hit a long jumper. CCU closed out the game on a 6-1 run.
Â
Hood tied for the game-high with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and was 4-for-5 from long range.
Kennedy Taylor contributed 14 points along with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. Also cracking double-digits was
Brooke Holle with 12 points. She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Â
The Bobcats made more field goals (22-20) and three-pointers (5-4) than the visitors. Biggest difference in the game was at the charity stripe. The Chants made 25 free throws and attempted 35 while Texas State took 14 and made 10 of them.
