Softball Team Rallies to Defeat Saint Louis 4-1

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Bobcats went on to defeat Saint Louis 4-1 on the second day of the Bobcat Classic on Friday evening.
 
The Bobcats and Billikens were tied at 1-1 in the middle of the sixth inning before Bailee Carter hit a double to left field to drive in Cat Crenek from second base. Then, Christiana McDowell hit a two-run homer to left field to cap off Texas State's rally.
 
Freshman pitcher Tori McCann held Saint Louis in check en route to a complete game as she held the Billikens to five hits and one run in seven innings, improving her record to 2-1 this season.
 
The Billikens scored their lone run in the top of the third. Kristi Stevenson led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second base on Kat Lane's single to left field. Stevenson scored the first run of the game after Gabbie Kowalik hit a double to centerfield.
 
Texas State came back to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth inning when McDowell reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Sarah Vanderford grounded out to shortstop.
 
The win improves Texas State's record to 4-2 after they came back to be I-35 rival UTSA in the opening game of the Bobcat Classic. The Bobcats will play two games on Saturday. They will play Saint Louis at noon and face Wichita State at 2:30 p.m.
 
The Shockers won their first two games in the Bobcat Classic on Friday with a 13-2 triumph over Saint Louis and a 12-1 win over UTSA. Wichita State also plays the UTSA on Saturday night at 7:15. The Roadrunners face Saint Louis at 5 p.m.
